Pointillism

The artistic style of pointillism is a spin-off of French Impressionism and is achieved by applying thousands, if not millions, of small strokes or dots close together and in varying colors and tonalities, to create a complete image that the human eye perceives in fluid gradients. Championed by incredible (and patient) artists such as Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, Pointillism is, in effect, still used today for all four-color (CMYK) printing procedures, in which dots of cyan, magenta, yellow and black create the whole spectrum of colors and tones. Even our printing at Encore Editions uses a type of pointillism, just at a much finer, high quality level than commercial product printing.
