Post-Impressionists
The father of the Post Impressionist artists was Paul Cezanne. Other notable members included Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat and Dutch artist Vincent Van Gogh. The term Post-Impressionism was coined in the early 20th Century by a critic by the name of Roger Fry. The movement includes an assortment of other smaller artistic revolutions, such as Pointillism and Symbolism. Post Impressionist painters continued the evolution of Impressionist painting by simplifying subjects to geometric forms and distortions and by using thick applications of paint in hues that were more arbitrary than realistic.
